Thousands of British citizens, who had their money in the offshore subsidiaries of the collapsed Icelandic banks, have joined forces to presurise the Government into refunding their lost savings. 21-Oct-08

Over the past week, a number of action groups have been formed, all of which are calling for Gordon Brown to stand behind savers who had money in the Isle of Man and Channel Island subsidiaries of Kaupthing and Landsbanki.

Although the Government has offered a 100 per cent guarantee for all savers who had their money in UK-based accounts run by Kaupthing, Landsbanki and its subsidiaries Icesave and Heritable, it has so far refused to extend its backing to theBritish citizens who have their money in offshore accounts.

It is thought more than 12,000 people are affected, with collective savings of almost £1bn.
