FINDINGS UNDER FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REVEAL FULL EXTENT OF STATES OF GUERNSEY AND MINISTRY OF JUSTICE’S FAILURE TOREPRESENT SAVERS IN LANDSBANKI GUERNSEY

In its continued fight for 100% return of depositors’ savings, the Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors’ Action Group (LGDAG) has secured correspondence under the Freedom of Information Act which reveals how the States of Guernsey government has failed to react to the continued inaction of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), which is constitutionally responsible for representing Guernsey in international affairs, to assist in the recovery of savings of Landsbanki Guernsey depositors.

Correspondence received reveals that no meetings took place between The States of Guernsey and the Ministry of Justice between September of last year and March this year regarding Landsbanki Guernsey and further confirms that no meetings have taken place between the Ministry of Justice and HM Treasury, regarding Landsbanki Guernsey.

LGDAG POSTPONES GUERNSEY DEMONSTRATION
IN LIGHT OF SWINE FLU

The Landsbanki Depositors Action Group (LGDAG) has decided to postpone its planned demonstration in Guernsey due to the potential Swine Flu pandemic. Expatriate and UK depositors were to have joined Channel Island members for a peaceful demonstration in Guernsey in June.

Although to date there has been no ban on tourists visiting the island, and reports of worldwide current fatalities and infection rates are thought not to be as great as originally anticipated, the World Health Organisation warned yesterday that swine ‘flu may return ‘with a vengeance’ in the months ahead. The LGDAG has therefore unanimously decided to act in the best interests of the health of Guernsey residents.

LANDSBANKI DEPOSITORS ACTION GROUP WELCOMES FINDINGS OF ‘HOUSE OF COMMONS TREASURY SELECT COMMITTEE’

Committee Calls On UK and Guernsey Governments to Work Together
& Recognises Depositors’ ‘Severe Distress’

The Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors Action Group (LGDAG) today welcomed the findings of the Treasury Committee report which quoted evidence given to the Committee by members of the failed bank’s Action Group.

The Committee felt that the Crown Dependencies should work closely with the UK to resolve the issues surrounding offshore banking practices as well as the losses that savers have experienced due to the bank’s failure.  The LGDAG has and continues to pressure the UK and Guernsey government to do this as a matter of urgency.  The Committee further stated that there needs to be better regulatory communication between the Crown Dependencies and the FSA.  The Committee also felt that the UK had no responsibility to protect savers who deposit money in accounts held in its Crown Dependencies even though saving ‘offshore’ is implicit in FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office) advice to expatriates.
